There is more than one way of reckoning the social costs of a pastime that has the incidental effect of killing off one's fellows. And reckoning it the hard way -- at unimaginably large sums necessary to satisfy those who want to be no part of the motorized society -- seems right to me, even if it would entail the abolition of private motoring in any collective choice.
