Demonstrating that participation will not destroy profitability may affect attitudes somewhat, but fundamental beliefs in individualism, competition, and just deserts drive the modern corporation. Reconciling these beliefs with the communal, cooperative goals of organizational democracy is the challenge to be faced if serious attempts at industrial democracy are to flourish.
