... I am an internationalist.... What difference is there between an American and an Italian? They are the same men, and morally they must be brothers. I had the good fortune to fight for the American people, as for my people; therefore I am for the fraternity of the human race. If a man who has earned 100 scudi by the fruit of his own labor is required to share this money with another who demands to live slothfully on his shoulders, the latter is a thief; such is my internationalism.
