A British writer, social campaigner, and fundraiser. Trevelyan was born Janet Penrose Ward in Oxford on 6 November 1879. She was the daughter of art critic Humphry Ward and writer Mary Augusta Ward, and through her mother was related to Matthew Arnold and Thomas Arnold. Her brother was the Conservative MP Arnold Ward.
